Guided by a prophetic faith, the purpose of Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice (YMPJ) is to transform both the people and the physical infrastructure of South Bronx neighborhoods and change the systems that negatively impact them. YMPJ’s vision is to create a space where community residents can define their success by remaining, investing in, and rebuilding their neighborhood instead of abandoning it. Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice (YMPJ) rebuilds the neighborhoods of Bronx River and Soundview/Bruckner in the South Bronx by preparing young people to become prophetic voices for peace and justice. They accomplish this through political education, spiritual formation, and youth and community development and organizing.
SOPHIA’s purpose is to create safe places to explore the physical, mental, health and spiritual issues of young women. Another goal is to bring more awareness of gender issues to the community and improve relationships between girls and boys, and men and women while affirming the importance of young women’s leadership in low-income communities.
