Guided by a prophetic faith, the purpose of Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice (YMPJ) is to transform both the people and the physical infrastructure of South Bronx neighborhoods and change the systems that negatively impact them. YMPJ’s vision is to create a space where community residents can define their success by remaining, investing in, and rebuilding their neighborhood instead of abandoning it. Founded in 1994, YMPJ's mission is to rebuild the neighborhoods of the Bronx River and Soundview/Bruckner in the South Bronx by preparing young people to become prophetic voices for peace and justice. This is accomplished through political education, spiritual formation and youth and community development and organizing.
YMPJ seeks to expand their community justice programs to include workforce development with their female immigrant population, community organizing for immigration reform, and fellowship meetings that will enable the women to deepen their faith and their relationships with one another.
