The Women 2.0 Media Project will preserve and document the history of the women who changed modern America. Starting with a video archive of oral histories, this multi-platform project is designed to inspire and reach general and educational audiences. Phase one is an online archive of 100 interviews; phase two is a long-awaited documentary chronicling the modern women’s movement.
We are at a unique moment in history. This is both the first and the last chance for us to create a comprehensive portrait of the modern women’s movement. Digital technology has given us the chance to gather and disseminate large numbers of oral histories in an unprecedented manner. But time is running out for many of the voices we most want to preserve. Unless the personal stories of women are recorded and preserved now, they will be forgotten. With its experienced production team, distinguished advisory board, and unique multimedia approach, The Women 2.0 Media Project will inspire and empower women of all ages, excite students and educators, and serve for all time as an unparalleled video resource. The project is now being developed for PBS by Kunhardt McGee Productions, Storyville Films and WETA, Washington, DC, with Gloria Steinem as its senior advisor.
