New York Theological Seminary (NYTS), an interdenominational Protestant seminary, was founded in 1900 as a training school for Bible teachers. In the late 1960s, having evolved for more than half a century into a highly respected theological school, the Seminary redefined its mission, becoming an institution primarily dedicated to training leaders for ministries in urban contexts locally, nationally and globally. The great majority of the women and men who have graduated since 1972 are engaged in a variety of ministries in the most challenging of urban neighborhoods, particularly within the five boroughs of New York City.
Building on the momentum and success of previous NYTS/RCWIM Women in Ministry Conferences, the Resource Center for Women in Ministry hosted the “Women Called by God: Developing Leadership Strategies for Women in Ministry,” multicultural, ecumenical conference. The conference was designed to explore different models for ministry among women.
