In 1978, New Horizons Ministries (NHM) began with a mission to provide outreach to youth living on the streets of Seattle. Founded by Don Ericson, who had a vision for building relationships with these often ignored young people, NHM charged forth with a credo to operate in the way of Jesus. Over the course of a decade, NHM observed a growing number of local evening prostitution activities and established a Late Night Outreach (LNO) program in 1986 to address this fast spreading problem. The LNO was designed to identify young women involved in prostitution and other forms of sexual exploitation and provide them with an opportunity to leave the lifestyle.
NHM is focused on being on the streets and remaining visible for those who need their help the most. Their work allows them to go where the needs are and, once there, fulfill that need. Through the LNO program, volunteers gather every Friday night between 10:30p.m. and 3:45a.m. in the areas most notorious for prostitution in Seattle and reach out to the young women on the streets. They provide support by supplying hygienic supplies, hot and cold beverages and snacks to young women involved in prostitution. NHM establishes an environment of love and accountability to help nourish the young women back to a healthy lifestyle away from the commercial sexual exploitation industry.
