Grants

Human Rights Initiative of North Texas
Amount Awarded: $5,000
to provide legal and social services for indigent immigrant women and girls who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking or human trafficking

Created in 2000 by a group of advocates for survivors of human rights abuses, Human Rights Initiative (HRI) focuses on meeting the needs of immigrants residing in North Texas, who have suffered grave human rights injustices. Primarily organized as a pro-bono project that combined in-house legal counsel and social services, HRI now boasts a volunteer base of lawyers that donates more than $400,000 in legal services annually. Since 2000, HRI has served more than 1,000 clients, and its asylum win rate is more than triple the national average.

The Sister Fund grant supported their project assisting immigrant women and girls who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking or human trafficking.
