Grants

CONNECT
Amount Awarded: $7,500
in support of the CONNECT FAITH program

Founded in 1993, New York City-based CONNECT, Inc. is dedicated to ending family and gender violence and to the creation of safe families and peaceful communities. CONNECT has committed itself to developing innovative responses to the problem of domestic and gender violence. Through a holistic combination of prevention, education and early intervention programs, CONNECT works within families and communities to transform the beliefs and behaviors that fuel patterns of abuse. They have developed partnerships with over 200 community organizations, including public libraries, small businesses, centers of worship and community health centers to create and support innovative ways of addressing domestic violence in underserved communities.

CONNECT FAITH is a program that works towards realizing the vision of safe and peaceful communities in New York City and beyond by working with women of faith to end violence against women. At the time the grant was given, the goals for 2008 were:

1) Expanding the Monthly Interfaith Theological Round Table;
2) Offering two 2-day trainings for clergy, lay leaders and spiritual activists;
3) Working extensively with three new faith communities or ministries led by women clergy and lay leaders to help them address family violence in their congregation and community in a comprehensive way.
