Hildy Simmons

Hildy SimmonsHildy Simmons has been involved in the philanthropic community for more than 25 years. Through October 2003, she was a managing director and head of the Global Foundations Group at JPMorgan Private Bank, overseeing the grantmaking of more than 40 foundations of which Morgan serves as a trustee or in other fiduciary and advisory roles. From June 1990 through October 2001, Ms. Simmons was responsible for JPMorgan’s corporate philanthropy program, heading the Department of Community Relations and Philanthropic Services. As an independent consultant, she currently advises select clients on their philanthropic activities.

Prior to joining JPMorgan in October 1986 as a member of the Community Relations and Public Affairs Department, Ms. Simmons also served as the program director of the Norman Foundation (1982-1986). She held a variety of positions in New York City and State government between 1971 and 1982, including serving in the mayor’s office (1972-1974); as director of community relations and then assistant deputy commissioner, New York State Department of Correctional Services (1976-1978); deputy director, Office of the Deputy Mayor for Criminal Justice; and Associate Commissioner New York City Department of Juvenile Justice (1979-1980). A former New York City Urban Fellow (1971-1972), Ms. Simmons has a BA from Lake Erie College (1972) and an MPA from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government (1976). She is a former president of the Philanthropy New York. She served on the boards of the JPMorgan Chase Foundation and the Lewis T. Preston Education Fund for Girls.

She currently serves on the boards of the Taconic Foundation, the Mary J. Hutchins Foundation, and the Jerome L. Greene Foundation, as well as The Sister Fund. She is chair of the New York City Board of Correction and a member of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission.
