Helen LaKelly Hunt

Helen LaKelly HuntHelen LaKelly Hunt is an activist within the women's movement. Committed to building a society that invites the full participation of all, Helen has long recognized the need to strengthen women's rights and leadership. She helped start a number of women's funding institutions, including the Dallas Women's Foundation, the New York Women's Foundation and the National Network of Women's Funds (now the Women's Funding Network.) She is also the founder and president of The Sister Fund.

Helen has served on the board of directors of the Ms. Foundation for Women, Women and Foundations, and the New York City Women's Agenda. Among her major civic activities have been active memberships on the Childcare Commission for the Mayor of the City of New York, and the New York City Commission on the Status of Women.

Helen holds three degrees from Southern Methodist University, a PhD from Union Theological Seminary and an honorary PhD. from the Chicago Theological Seminary. In 2004, Atria published her book, Faith and Feminism: A Holy Alliance, which lifts up the dynamic synergy between feminism and progressive faith traditions.

Helen has received numerous awards for her leadership in building the women's funding movement and is an honored inductee in the National Women's Hall of Fame.

Along with her activities on behalf of women and girls, Helen has co-authored seven books with her husband, Harville Hendrix, and has been instrumental in the development of Imago Relationship Therapy, which he founded. Ten years ago, Helen and Harville purchased a hacienda in northern New Mexico, where they work to strengthen the local community. They currently live in New York City, and treasure their six grown children, who are stepping forward and making exciting waves in the world.
